Fishamble: The New Play Company
presents
FORGOTTEN
by Pat Kinevane
Jim Culleton, Artistic Director of Fishamble: The New Play Company, is delighted to announce that the acclaimed production of Forgotten by writer and performer Pat Kinevane will be continue its summer tour with 3 performances at the Everyman Palace Theatre, Cork.
With more than 20 performances in 2010, including a three week engagement at the Irish Arts Center in New York, special performances in Washington D.C. and Boston, and a six-venue tour of Bulgaria and Turkey, Forgotten returns to Ireland for 3 performances this May at the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork from 27th – 29th May at 8pm. It will be the first time Forgotten has been performed in Cork City.
Pat Kinevane’s captivating portrayal of four elderly characters, living in retirement homes and care facilities around Ireland, is a unique collage of Kabuki dance and Irish storytelling. With vibrancy and haunting honesty, Kinevane’s stylized performance brings to life these sometimes forgotten voices of society.
This boutique performance by the award-winning Fishamble: The New Play Company has been a major hit on tour in Ireland and internationally, with more than 80 performances since it was first presented as part of Bealtaine Festival 2006. Since then it has toured extensively throughout Ireland, the USA, Scotland, England, Paris, The Czech Republic, Iceland, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.
Pat Kinevane’s previous plays for Fishamble include The Nun’s Wood and The Plains of Enna. He has worked as an actor in theatre, film, radio and television for the past twenty years. TV and film credits include Black Day at Blackrock, A Mother’s Love’s A Blessing, King Arthur and Ballykissangel. He played the title role in I, Keano and has performed with leading Irish theatre companies nationally and internationally.
Fishamble: The New Play Company is funded by the Arts Council and Dublin City Council. International touring is supported by Culture Ireland.

Press Reaction to FORGOTTEN:
- Nomination for Irish Times Special Judges’ Award at 2008 Irish Theatre Awards
- ‘vigorous theatricality and an incisive, often scabrous wit…a seamless blend of style and substance…astonishingly realised…a consummate act of storytelling …shot through with compassion, understanding and performative adventurousness…it is a striking accomplishment; captivating, moving, and – yes – even unforgettable.’ The Irish Times
- ‘an incredibly moving piece of theatre…immediate and compelling…beautiful and strange…unequivocally beautiful’ ***** The Scotsman
- ‘a piece of theatre not easily forgotten…its best moments linger in the mind and haunt you on the way home, and after, maybe…a performance of rare authority and completeness…a seductive, compelling quality, performed with grace and rigour.’ The Sunday Tribune
- ‘a highly original piece of theatre’ **** Daily Mail
- ‘an original and fascinating piece of theatre…Kinevane’s moving performance is not to be missed’ **** British Theatre Guide
- ‘exceptional solo show…a bravura display by Kinevane, full of robust vitality and a roguish, twinkling wit’ ***** The Herald
- ‘captivating, invigorating piece of dance theatre…his body is mesmerising, conveying a power and pride in old age that is breathtaking…lean, beautiful writing…exhilarating…witty, relevant and disturbing…left me profoundly moved…5/5’ Three Weeks
- ‘an indelible solo performance…one of the most unexpectedly witty and dramatically rewarding works of the theater you are likely to attend this year…the sorrows of ageing and the mystery of the heart are movingly captured by this slow and deliberate performance style, kicking the play into an unlikely artistic high gear…Jim Culleton directs the show with enormous confidence…Kinevane seems to have crossed Kiss of the Spider Woman with an immediately familiar Irish slice of life tale that might have been penned by William Trevor, and the result is rarely less than electrifying.’ Irish Voice (New York)
- ‘Kinevane switches between each role with marvelous facility, clearly the result of his talent and the strength of his distinctive writing. There’s real bite in Kinevane’s script and performance.’ Irish Central (New York)
- “Never underestimate the substance, the complexity, of a long life. ‘Forgotten,’ Pat Kinevane’s one-man show at the Irish Arts Center, gracefully illustrates that point with mimickry, invention and formidable stamina. Well paced and poignant. Mr. Kinevane artfully conveys the secrets, the hidden past, of the aged, and the dignity often behind their quaint, seemingly innocuous bearing.” The New York Times
- “… the monologues are beautifully written and vivid, what makes this show uniquely memorable is Kinevane’s raw, over-the-top, compassionate performance…” The New Yorker
- “Every once in a while, if we are lucky, we stumble upon a work of art so staggering that it whirls about our memories long after our initial encounter.” Dossier Journal
