Offering young people, age 14-18, with a passion for filmmaking an opportunity to explore and develop their skills in a collaborative environment, Cork Young Filmmakers announces its 2023 Summer Film making programme!
Cork Young Filmmakers is offering a series of hands-on filmmaking workshops this summer across County Cork for young people from 14 to 18 years old. Each workshop will cover scriptwriting, camera work, lighting, directing actors, and an introduction to editing. At the end of the workshop, each participant will have experience with every role on the team and together will have produced a short film as a film crew.
Each five-day workshop week will run from 10 am – 4:30 pm On the following dates:
- Midleton June 26-30
- Mallow July 3-7
- Cobh July 10-14
- Macroom July 17-21
- Bandon July 24-28
Workshops are sponsored by Cork County Council, The Arts Council, SECAD, Cork ETB and Creative Ireland, and the total cost is just €75 per person for the full week.
These courses are specifically designed for young people and are ideal for those who are creative and have a genuine interest in filmmaking, either in front of or behind the camera. Previous experience is not a requirement and each workshop creates a safe place for young people to meet and learn with other filmmakers. It’s all about having fun, building confidence, encouraging creativity, and self-expression.
Taught by experienced professional filmmakers, each week covers storytelling, directing, film production, script development, sound, lighting, cinematography and editing. Each day from 10am to 4.30pm is jam-packed with practical activities which encourage participants to explore a wide range of filmmaking skills from writing and directing and acting, to cinematography, editing, and creating soundtracks. The young filmmakers will get the opportunity to develop their craft using professional equipment provided by Cork Film Centre.
