The guided walking tours of Spike Island have been a great success bringing people from all over Munster and Ireland to see the Island and learn of it’s extraordinary history. People are amazed to learn that the fort was never built as a prison but nevertheless was used as one on five occasions in its past. On every day since the tours started there has been a second trip required at 4pm in addition to the scheduled 2pm tour.
Many Cobh people have gone on the tour and came back from the island with a whole new appreciation of it. So popular has the trip been with locals, the organisers, Marine Transport and Michael Martin have decided to run additional tours over the Regatta weekend. On Sat 14th and Sun 15th guided tours will operate from Kennedy pier at 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Cost of the combined trip to the island and the guided tour is €12.50 per adult and children 12 yrs and under €8. Tickets can only be purchased on day of travel at point of embarkation. Family tickets are available and conditions apply. For further information contact 4811485 or 4815211.
