An audience of 120 braved the bitter cold on Thursday 23rd December to attend the Christmas Audience with Dominic Finn concert in the Great Island Community Centre.
Copious mulled wine, lashings of mince pies and the huge musical talent that there is in Cobh meant that people left this concert feeling all warm and Christmasy!
Before the concert the winners of the Christmas in Cobh Shop Window Display competition organised by See You In Cobh were announced. The judge, Ernest Perryman, had great difficulty picking the winners and awarded a joint third prize to Gibb’s Pharmacy and Cobh Pharmacy, second place to Wilson’s Pharmacy and the top accolade to The Keen House.
The concert was a feast of musical delights performed by Dominic, the resident band and the hugely talented guest line up that included Caroline Fraher, Caitriona Fallon, Patrick O’Donoghue, Jim Quinlan, Alan Carney, Darragh McGann, Terri Byrne, Paul O’Connor, Ben Hurley, Molly Lynch and John Daly.
The answers given by Dominic to the questions asked by the audience gave a light hearted insight into the influences, highlights and family life of Cobh’s Maestro.
Every performance of the night was special but John Daly’s rendition of O’ Holy Night, which he dedicated to his late mother and that received a standing ovation was especially powerful.
The proceeds of the “An Audience with …. “ series of concerts will be used to re-illuminate St. Colman’s Cathedral with LED lights. Speaking after the concert, Hendrick Verwey said “See You In Cobh is delighted with the standard of the four concerts held so far which were world class. The audience turnout for each of the four concerts is a little disappointing however and the funds raised so far are well below the target set by See You In Cobh so that the Cathedral can be relit by Christmas 2011”.
The next “An Audience with …. “ will be with Katie McGroarty on 16th January. Tickets cost €10 and will be available early in the New Year.
