An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, T.D. officially opened the Titanic Experience, the permanent visitor attraction situated in the White Star Line building in the heart of Cobh Town, today on his visit to East Cork.

The TITANIC EXPERIENCE Cobh tells the unique story of the White Star Line’s largest passenger steamliner, Titanic, through the eyes of the Irish passengers who boarded at Cobh (then Queenstown) to travel on the most famous maiden voyage in history.   This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Titanic’s visit to Queenstown, now Cobh.

“I am delighted to officially open the Titanic Experience today. Cobh and the Titanic are intrinsically linked through history, and this centre ensures that we never forget all those people that boarded Titanic from Queenstown and those who perished when she sank on 15 April 1912”, stated An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, T. D at the official opening ceremony in Cobh.

The centre is of huge benefit to the South & East region, as a major tourist attraction further widening the appeal of the area for visitors to Ireland.  The opening of the centre in Cobh has created 12 jobs, and the attraction is currently on track to reach 60,000 visitors this year.

“Visitors to the Titanic Experience Cobh come from all over the country, on school tours, field trips, history assignments and holiday makers, as well as internationally from the four corners of the globe”, said Gillen Joyce, Managing Director, Titanic Experience.

The Titanic Experience received funding from SECAD, the South & East Cork Area Development company, and also raised BES funding to support the restoration of the White Star Line building and overall development of the Titanic Experience Cobh project.  The TITANIC EXPERIENCE is open seven days a week from 9am-6pm with last entry at 5pm.
