Carrignafoy400x300The Annual Carrignafoy Community College student awards were held on Thursday May 14th at The Commodore Hotel. Principal Frank Donovan extended a broad welcome to one and all. He introduced special guests on the night which included guest speaker Mark Kennedy, Ray Keane Bank of Ireland, John Kiely Garveys Super Valu and John Mulvihill. Career Guidance teacher Lillian Griffin acted as M.C for the night.

The class awards were presented by John Kiely Super Valu and the worthy recipients proudly accepted their awards from him at the stage. The teachers of Carrignafoy community college participated in the ceremony by presenting the subject awards. Worthy recipients included Roisin & Tadhg Mockler, Andrew O Reilly, Kayleigh Burns, Dawid Dura, Luke Kelly, Aoife Leahy, Anna Geary & Lisa O Driscoll.

Guest speaker Mark Kennedy continued with the subject awards in the areas of the STEM subjects. These included Science which went to Hannah Barry, Physics
Tadhg Mockler, Chemistry Roisin Mockler, Woodwork Luke Kelly & Construction Studies Conor Drake. Mark Kennedy is a past pupil of Carrignafoy Community College and is now maintenance supervisor at Janssen Pharmaceuticals.

In his address he recalled his many happy memories at Carrignafoy Community College. He continued by encouraging the students to recognise and celebrate their traits as young people and to remain motivated for their life goals. He commended parents and teachers for the crucial role they play in the education of the students. The sports awards followed where Darren Mc Kevitt, Issouf Kone, Ger Devlin, Tomasz Krawczyk, Callum Walsh & Sean Mulligan were awarded. The large crowd were then treated to a wonderful recital on the Lusitania by Jack O Leary who was to be awarded the
performing arts award. Extra curricular activities were recognised on the night with Evan Scannell accepting the award on behalf of the Homework club, Martin Mngomezula on behalf of the Green schools committee.

Ray Keane was present to award Helena Ireland for her great work in the school bank this year. Ray also presented attendance & achievement awards on the night. Sr. Emmanuel presented the Faith friends awards where Ciara Gannon, Arianna Azzaro, Sara Liotta & Iris Borns received nice keepsakes for participating in this unique programme. The ceremony drew to a close with Mr Frank Donovan speaking very highly of John Mulvihill in recognition of his commitment to the VEC/ETB and the local community. John received the Community Award for 2015. Elma Twomey Deputy Principal called on Sean Mulligan to receive the Deputy Principals award for 2015. Sean was praised for being outgoing in his manner with a positive attitude and a good basic friend to his peers. Frank Donovan presented the Student of the Year award to Roisin Mockler for her commitment to her studies and her consistent hard work at the college. Roisin closed the ceremony with a speech that touched the hearts of everyone. She spoke highly of everyone who has supported her on her journey
