Cobh Camogie News 23rd September

Our Juniors had a county semi date with Milstreet last Friday night in Cloughduv. In a fairly even contest Cobh led at half time by 3 points. 10 minutes into the second half Milstreet were level but Cobh then took the game to our opponents and strode on to win by three points at the whistle. A deserved place in the final girls well done one and all.

Some of our underage girls were taken to Croker for the Camogie final, although the result didn’t go our way it was a fantastic day all round, seeing parts of Dublin we have never seen before and some girls caught a glimpse of the full moon on the way home.

Our U16’s were in action tonight (Sunday) in the county quarter finals against our hosts Ballygarvan. Cobh got off to a slightly better start  in the early exchanges but playing in their own backyard Ballygarvan started to stretch their legs and led 4 points to 2 late on in the first half when our girls slipped in two goals to lead at the break. The expected onslaught happened in the second half and we were brought back to level within 10 minutes. Going 2 points down seemed to be a catalyst for our girls, and their never say die attitude, some gritty defending and a couple of well taken goals laid the scene for a nervy ending, our defence held strong restricting our opponents to long range efforts, in a spell where our girls put feet, hands and even heads in the way to stave off a fancied Ballygarvan our girls held on to win by a point…WOW what a match great stuff girls good luck in the semi’s

Our Minors have their final next Sunday 30th V’s Newcestown away. Still waiting on the fixture for our U!5 Imokilly final.
