Cobh Golf Club looking for “Best Buddies”

Times are difficult for everyone, and the money does not sit loose. So it is remarkable, that Cobh Golf Club has managed to increase membership in both past years – against a nationwide trend! No wonder, as praise is coming in from the most prolific players for the magnificent Golf Course at Marino Point, right on Cobh ’s doorstep! The Greens are regarded as absolute top-class nationwide, and the views from the course are simply stunning

Still, there is membership available, and the new Management Committee have just announced a unique and attractive new joining scheme for new members who want to join as a group. If one ever thought about joining this fully members-owned Club, now is the time!

The normal joining levy and individual new membership conditions (at 3,000€ and €100/month) remain in place (as every member of the club is also part-owner of the course, the value of this has to be reflected in the levy). However; the Club is now offering an attractive discount, if a new member brings a second new player with him/her into the club. In short, the “Buddy” Membership allows a new member (an Introducing Member) to pay a reduced levy, if he/her bring in another new member or a “Buddy” in. If however, the “Buddy” leaves the Club before 4 years of membership, then the introducing members fee will go back up to €100/month from that time. Certain conditions apply.

The new scheme also applies to all members who joined on the €100/months scheme last year and now bring their “Buddy” in.

The “Buddy Scheme” is available in either individual form (2-9 players) or group form (10 or more players). Individually, an Introducing Member pays an annual sub of €69.00 per month and his/her “Buddy” pays the normal monthly membership fee of €100 per month. If for example, four new members join together, three of them pay €69, and one pays €100.

The “Group Buddy” Membership allows all members of a group of minimum 10 new players to pay a reduced levy if they join together. Thus, each group member only pays an annual sub of €69.00 per month. If the amount of €828 paid over a year of exceeds the normal annual subscription for existing members, the difference is regarded as payment towards the levy.

Exact “Terms and conditions” can be received from the Club or on the website. Anyone interested in the new joining scheme can call the Pro Shop or Club office for further information, or check the membership conditions and application forms on the website.

By the way, the Club also sells Xmas Vouchers, which can be put towards the membership fee (or alternatively be exchanged into normal Green Fee Vouchers).

Cobh Golf Club is a fully members-owned club with a thriving youth section (the “boys” are 2011 Munster foursomes Champions). Its 18-Hole Championship Golf Course was officially opened in 2010 by then Irish Open Champion Shane Lowry. Members are now playing the course for the past 2 ½ years, and the Roughs have since been cut back, while Fairways and Greens have matured beautifully, and are regarded by many experts as top-class in Munster . The signature hole is the 10th, a downhill shot to a genuine Island Green, with stunning views over Cork harbour.

In June 2011 the Club also completed their new provisional clubhouse. It is equipped with separate changing rooms for Ladies and Men. There are electric shower units in the Men’s and in the Ladies facility. An Entertainment Room for up to ca 40 members, with large screen TV and Coffee/Tea facilities is available, which is also used for presentations and special events. “
