The symbolic annual season openerer, the President’s and new Captain’s “Drive In” took place on 12th February. A great crowd attended on Sunday, 12 February, to observe the occasion, and wish President Noreen Kelly, the new Captain Steve Mulcahy, new Lady Captain Mary Boland O’Connor, and new Youth Captain Graham O’Connor much luck and success in 2012. Despite some clouds, sunshine broke through for most of the day, contributing as much to the enjoyment as the stunning Drives and great food and talk in the clubhouse. Scones, Curry and Salads were served and eagerly consumed. And to top it all up, President Noreen was also treated to some Birthday tunes – and a cake! There was no better place to spend the day (at least that is what most of the members reported). And, by the way, if the great Drives are a sign of things to come, then there must be a genuinely booming year in store for the Club!
An eagerly awaited highlight in 2012 will be the Open “Titanic100 Cobh Golf Classic”, which will be held on the 20th/21st April. Great prizes will be handed to the winners and runners up, including accommodation and golf in some of Irelands most attractive golf resorts. Bookings for the Golf competition (Teams of 3 – Stableford) and the concluding Gala Dinner with Cobh’s own “Big Band” are now being taken. Places are going fast! The Gala Dinner with the Big Band, held on Saturday 21st April in the Commodore Hotel can be booked separately or together with the Golf.
Late last year, Cobh Golf Club has introduced their ground-breaking new “Buddy-Scheme”, under which new members can join for just ?69 per month, if they come together with a friend or group of friends. Details are available on the Club’s website – or even better, just phone the office at 021-4812399 or call in to the Pro Shop! For Students and Juveniles (from 10 years) the annual fees have been kept at a minimum of ?150 and ?100 per year. The Youth section remains at the core of the Club’s activities. The success of the section in 2011 (with the Junior boys winning the Munster Championship) shows that the direction is right!
