TITANIC EXPERIENCE COBH OPENS IT’S DOORS TO PUBLIC

The highly anticipated TITANIC EXPERIENCE COBH, a permanent visitor attraction in the heart of Cobh town, has recently opened its doors to the public.

The TITANIC EXPERIENCE tells the story of the White Star Line?s largest passenger steamliner, Titanic, through the eyes of the Irish passengers, mostly 3rd class, who travelled on the most famous maiden voyage in all history.

Situated in the original White Star Line ticket office in Cobh, the location marks the departure point for the last 123 passengers that boarded the ill-fated Titanic on the 11th of April 1912.  Just three days later, the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank, with a death toll of 1523 people. Just 44 passengers that boarded in Cobh survived their journey on Titanic.

‘This year marks the 100 year anniversary of Titanic, and we felt passionately about restoring the White Star Line building in Cobh, and transforming it into an experience that was educational and historical as well as an important tourist attraction for Irish and international visitors?, explained Sonia Joyce  Marketing Manager of the Titanic Experience. Managing Director Gillen Joyce, has worked on this attraction for the last 18 months.  ?Most of all, we wanted to ensure that the story of the Irish passengers on board Titanic was told.’

Visitors to the TITANIC EXPERIENCE are transported back in time with great authenticity given the centre?s location in the White Star Line ticket office.  Through the media of engaging audio and innovative video as well as touch screen technology, visitors will truly experience journey on board the Titanic from the moment they board the experience, receive their authentic ticket personalised with real passenger details, and are guided through the ticket office to the tenders, where the passengers left Cobh, then Queenstown, to board the ship.

‘We are delighted with the feedback to date and have been taken aback by the level of interest in the attraction. It is the authenticity of the White Star Line building, the poignancy of the stories told throughout the tour experience’, the detail of information provided in relation to the Titanic and her passengers that ensure a very special experience indeed. We felt that the interactivity and experiential element to the overall project make it a unique attraction in the Cork Region? added Sonia.

The Titanic Experience received funding from SECAD, the South & East Cork Area Development company, and also raised BES funding to support the restoration of the White Star Line building and overall development of the Titanic Experience project.

The TITANIC EXPERIENCE is open seven days a week from 9am-6pm with last entry at 5pm.  The centre is offering special pricing for the month of February for all visitors, and family tickets are available for €18, with adult tickets at €7, children over 5 years €3.50  and senior citizens and students availing of entry fees of €5.60.  Pre-booking is not necessary although it is advised to avoid disappointment to contact The White Star Line Ticket Office on 021-4814412 or email info@titanicexperiencecobh.ie
