The first games of the new season took place last Saturday and mixed results for the Club. In a double header away to Church of Ireland Div 6 took the points on a 2-0 score line when Caroline Green struck twice from short corners. The game was the debut for some of the new young hockey players from Cobh when Kate Morgan, Abbie Mulvihill, Lauren Bates and Lauren Kavanagh took to the field and they played no small part in the opening win for the team and it was great to see the young emerging talent coming through. Defender Cathy Renehan played a Player of the Match performance for her team.
Newly promoted Div 3 had the hard task in their first game away to the strongly fancied C. of I team who featured some of their last years Div 2 team. Cobh competed strongly against the Garryduff side and at the end of the first half they were 2-1 one down with the Cobh goal coming from a excellent short corner from new joining Liz Clifford, , who had played for Cobh several years ago. The second half saw both sides up the ante when they traded goals, Emma Mackey and Katie Murphy scoring two lovely goals from play, but it was Cobh who came out the wrong side of a 4-3 score line. This however was a positive performance for the Cobh side and hopefully with better things to come in the rest of the games.
Fixtures: Div 3 Cobh v Dungarvan, Sun 2/10/11, Midleton College (no time yet)
Div 6 : No game
