Cobh Museum is marking its 40th Anniversary this year. As part of the 2013 celebrations the Museum launched the “ Leabhar Mór na Cruinne”, the “Great Book of the Gathering”, on Friday 26th April 2013. The Museum invites families and returning visitors to place a dedication in this book which will be on display in Cobh Museum throughout the year of The Gathering 2013.
Two new exhibitions are now open:
Leaving ~ Living
For centuries people have been leaving Cobh to live in countries all around the world. Some of these people returned to the town but many never came back. Here we tell a selection of emigration stories to reflect the ordinary and sometimes extraordinary lives of just a few of these people including Olympic Medallist Sonia O’Sullivan. Sonia was amongst the first to sign the” Leabhar Mór na Cruinne” in Cobh Museum.
Yesterday’s Child”
This is a re-creation of a successful exhibition from 1983 and is part of the celebration this year of the 40th anniversary of the Museum. “Yesterday’s Child” is an exhibition of toys and games, many no longer in fashion and many still popular with Today’s Child.
Cobh Museum is open daily from April to October and is located in Scots Church, High Road, Cobh, Co. Cork. www.cobhmuseum.com
