Cobh Town Council is continuing to move forward with their ground breaking commitment to driving a Suicide Safer Community.  Earlier this year the Council adopted a motion to immediately implement a Suicide Prevention Policy, the first Town Council in Ireland to make such a commitment and this November has seen members of Cobh Town Council complete SAFE Talk Training; a Suicide Intervention and Prevention Training Workshop.  Cobh Town Mayor, Councillor Jim Quinlan was very complimentary of the training which was delivered by voluntary group Breaking The Silence “all staff unanimously agreed that the course was hugely enlightening and worthwhile.  Those of us who participated certainly feel we are more alert to the issue of Suicide and I would encourage everyone to consider taking this free course and to play their part in creating a “Suicide Safer  Community”.  I would also encourage everyone to support any fundraising activities organised by this very worthy voluntary group”.
Breaking The Silence are one of the four Suicide Prevention groups taking part in “Rebels Unite In Hope” which is a Celebrity Soccer Match taking place on 3rd Dec at 2pm, Turners Cross Stadium followed by a Dinner Dance at Cork’s Ambassador Hotel at 8pm with Guest Speaker Joan Freeman Psychologist and Founder of Pieta House.  For details check out the Breaking The Silence facebook page and contact any group member for tickets.
