”I have today spoken to Ger O Hora from Cork Co Council in relation to the current water shortage in Cobh and he stated to me that there are multiple line breakages in Cobh due to the recent thaw. The Council are endeavouring to locate those areas, however due to the fact that many of those breakages are under ground it is difficult to locate them as quickly as one would like. The council are using a sensor system which involves walking each line to locate the areas where there are breaks. This is very time consuming work but the council are doing all in there power to locate them.
The amount of water coming into Cobh is not sufficient to keep up with the demand therefore it is necessary to put in restrictions in supply. The council are endeavouring to give a supply to all areas for a period over the day to ensure that tanks are filled to supply toilets, washing, cooking needs and heating system needs.
As I have stated, the council are endeavouring to find the breakages if your area has been without water for the past number of days a special phone number has been put in place 021-4821433. By phoning the number you will be able to assist the council where there might be breakages.
I have also asked about the possibility of water tankers being brought in to provide water to those areas where there is no current supply and I have been assured that the Council will keep it under review and will, provide tankers if the they are unable to provide some sort of supply to areas currently with out water.
Finally I would like to recognise the work of our own water curator Guss for the work he has put in over the past few days he is doing all he can working 14hr days over the Christmas period to ensure as many houses have some supply. If there were no restrictions we would run out of water very quickly. I will endeavour to keep people informed of any developments and I thank you for your patience in this regard. I know from personal experience having two young children how difficult the current situation can be but I can assure you the council are doing every they can to resolve the situation. ”
