carOn Saturday 22nd June, Cobh Classic Car Club welcomed over 60 vintage and classic cars to Cobh for the second Titanic Classic. The cars on show ranged from 1900’s up to early 1980’s and included cars from manufacturers such as Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Ford and Morgan, amongst others in a display that any motoring museum would be proud to present. The ladies from Cobh Animation Team, in their period dress also added to the vintage atmosphere throughout the day.

After the initial assembly outside the Commodore Hotel in Westbourne place, the cars and drivers took the road to head for Fota Wildlife park, where, as part of the park’s 30th anniversary celebrations were treated to a drive through the Safari park. The drive was as much a joy to the drivers and passengers as it was to the thousands of visitors to the park who were amazed to witness such an event.
Upon leaving Fota, the cars were on the road back to The Great Island for a scenic drive around the waterside perimeter en-route to the town centre where were joined by many other similar cars for an afternoon display at The Commodore Hotel in Westbourne place.

This year saw the introduction of The Great Island Motors perpetual trophy for Best Car Of The Show, won by Alan Beardshaw (UK) in a 1934, MG K3 and The Cobh Classic Car Club perpetual trophy for Longest Distance Travelled To The Show, won by Chris Hudson from South Yorkshire in a 1920’s Fraser Nash TT.

An afternoon run took the cars, via Carrigaline, to Fort Camden, in Crosshaven where they were on display while the entrants enjoyed spectacular views of Cork Harbour.
On completion of the Cobh event, many of the cars headed for Rochestown Park hotel, for scrutiny in preparation for the 75th Anniversary of the 1938 Cork Grand Prix which took place in Cork city on Sunday.
Cobh Classic Car Club would like to thank, The Commodore Hotel for its sponsorship of the event, without whose involvement this day would not have been possible. The club would also like to thank Garda Siochana, Cobh Town Council, Cork Dockyard Ltd and Cross River Ferries for their help in making the event a success. The club would also like to thank the other Cobh businesses who gave sponsorship, for their generosity and willingness to support an event which attracts many visitors and puts Cobh well and truly on the Heritage Motoring map.
