Walterstown School was awarded its fourth Green Flag for Travel at a ceremony held in Silver Springs Hotel on Thursday 16th May. Walterstown is just one of many schools in Ireland who are part of the Green Schools Programme-an international environmental education programme that promotes and acknowledges long-term whole school action for the environment. Green Schools Ireland is operated by An Taisce and works closely with Local Authorities throughout the country. The school got the go ahead this week from Cork County Council for the erection of two solar powered warning signs. These will help make the roads safer for children who walk or cycle to school.
Walterstown N.S. began work on the Travel theme almost two years ago. Over the course of the two years, Walterstown has received two major national awards: RSA Leading Lights Award and Hero Teacher Award.
