‘Genesis and other short stories’ is a new book written by Cobh native Peter Walsh. In the book Peter has written 20 short stories and poems covering subjects from love, religion, God and the Devil to poems about his children and his all time hero and biggest influence Kris Kristofferson.
His sense of humour, profundity and honesty shines throughout the book as he talks about things that he is obviously passionate about, his love of rowing, the sea, his children and his ‘beautiful ’soul mate, his faith and one of the toughest times in his life when he suffered with depression. A subject many would be hard pressed to mention but here in his book it is tackled with humility.
Peter left school at an early age as he felt he ‘didn’t fit in’ and tried his hand at many different jobs from a Telegram boy, a Seaman, Bouncer, Labourer to a Safety Officer. Recessionary times saw him struggling to make a living at times but having an active imagination worked in his favour and he managed to put his time to better use. He now writes poems and songs and spends his spare time drawing and creating. He believes it is good for his children to see him being creative and doing something positive and this he says will hopefully influence them in their future.
