Haulbowline Theatre Group will  be running their new production of Noel Coward’s “Blithe Spirit” from Thursday July 26 to Sunday July 29 at the theatre on Haulbowline Naval Base.

The play centres around the main character Charles Condomine, an author, who’s first wife Elvirs has been dead for seven years and Charles remarried to a woman called Ruth who’s a rather domineering woman.  In an effort to secure material for his latest novel he decides to invite Madame Arcati, a London Medium, recently settled into his village, to give a seance in his home.  The evening appears to go off without any fuss, but Charles soon discovers that the ghost of Elvira has resurrected.  As Elvira’s ghost is only visible to Charles, Ruth believes him to be drunk and his attempts to convince her of Elviras presence fail. Elvira has returned for one reason only, to return to the other world with Charles.  Madame Arcati returns to save the day but not before a great deal of mayhem.

Cobh’s very own Shane Coleman steps out of his usual acting duties to direct this, his first three act play.  Shane brings a wealth of experience to his new role as director, having been lead actor with the group for the past several years and has also served as the sound and lighting technician on many recent productions.

This improbable farce stars Pat Mahony as Charles Condomine with Berna Gordon as the Domineering Ruth and Majella Smith taking on the role of Madame Arcati. Also starring are Dennis Cotter as Dr Bradman, Mary O’Flynn as the dotty Mrs Bradman and Nicola Cotter as Edith the maid.

Curtain up each night is at 8.00pm sharp and the launch leaves the Naval Pier at 7.30pm each night.  Tickets are on sale at Gibbs Chemist, English’s Newsagents, Cobh Pharmacy and Walsh Chemist Carrigaline. Or you can call 0863388942.
