‘Monumental Day’ for Cobh Pirates Rugby Club

Saturday 16th January was a monumental day for the future of rugby in the Club. It was the day when contracts were signed with McSherry Electrical this morning for the delivery of a new state of the art Musco floodlight system at the Paddocks.

Part funding for the project was with the aid of €80,000 allocated under the Sports Capital Aid Programme 2015.

The Executive Committee were delighted to invite local TD and Minister for State, Mr.Sean Sherlock to turn the sod on the project and would like to acknowledge Mr. Sherlock’s outstanding support and guidance throughout and enabling the Club to get the project to the commencement stage.

On hand on the day were Club Trustees, Mr Ray Keating and Mr Michael Walley, Club President, Eddie McCarthy, Members of the Executive Committee, Club Coach, Brendan Ronan, Club Captain, Ruairi Geary, along with Club Chairman, Kieran McKeown, who signed the contracts on behalf of CPRFC with Mr. Neil McSherry, Director of McSherry Electrical. Also in attendance was John McCall, representing Laya Healthcare, Club Sponsors and local Councillor Cathal Rasmussen with Ex-Councillor, John Mulvihill.

Speaking to Cobh Edition Minister Sherlock said ‘This is a wonderful project that will open up the evenings to rugby in Cobh,’

“I’m delighted to have played a small role in getting this project to the starting line. i look forward to the construction taking place and further cementing the professionalism and community spirit that thrives here at Cobh pirates. this is a red letter day for all of Cobh and I look forward to the first game under lights here.”
