Niamh Halligan Gets C.C.S.M. Award

Proud Niamh Halligan with her 'Music in the Community Award- Individual'

County Cork School of Music(C.C.S.M.) held it’s Annual Award Ceremony in Glanmire Community College on Friday 15th of October. This is a very important date in the school’s calendar and is a way of high lighting the wonderful work being undertaken by the students and staff of the C.C.S.M. Pupils from the Cobh centre which is based in Cobh Community College were present on the night and the pre awards entertainment was provided by Luasca a Cobh Traditional Irish music group under teacher Jenny Ui Loingsigh In fact this group was nominated for Music in the Community Award- Group and there was great excitement when the gold envelope was opened they were announced the winners.

A member of this group Niamh Halligan was nominated for Music in the Community Award- Individual and to add further excitement again when the gold envelope was opened she was announced the winner. Niamh can be heard playing at different concerts and events in Cobh, playing for senior citizen parties, fund raising for many organizations, playing for Cobh Chamber Swing in the promenade and every year going on the “wren”
collecting for a nominated charity. A lot of this is done in the company of her cousin Diarmuid Moroney a past pupil of C.C.S.M and a 2nd year music student in U.C.C. Niamh plays tin whistle, flute, concertina, violin and harp, is a member of Douglas Comhaltas and Co. Cork youth orchestra. She is a T.Y pupil in Cobh Community College again where she plays for all school events.
Niamh would like to thank her music teacher Jenny Ui Loingsigh who nominated her for this award and for all her support over the years. In the Cobh centre Niamh also studies violin with music teacher Kieran Deloughry. Thanks must also go to C.C.S.M. for a great night of celebration and well done to all the other nominees and award winners.
