Cobh Pirates 09/10 2nd side were awarded a civic reception in Cobh on Friday evening to recognise their achievements of the season past. This side struggled for numbers early in the season and as a result had to pull out of the Dennehy cup. But the character of this squad showed as the season progressed where they went on to win the Junior 2 league south, the Munster Junior 2 league and the Kelly cup. And in a twist of faith they were also awarded the Junior 2 cup, which they contested against UCC in the final. Their opponents, UCC, were found to play illegal players and the trophy was awarded to the rightful winners.
Throughout the season a large numbers of players were invloved, which is expected when a team is this successful, and Cobh Council were delighted to give this team a civic reception to honour their achievments.
This is the 2nd time that the club has been given this honour, the previous occasion was after the club won the Munster Junior cup for the first time, defeating Cork Constitution in the final.
