Titanic Experience Cobh Launches Children’s Art Competition as part of Project Titanic
Wednesday, 6 March 2013: The Titanic Experience, Cobh’s permanent visitor attraction, today announced the launch of the Project Titanic Art competition and is calling on all artistic minds to showcase their creative talents and submit entries before the April 1st 2013. Philip Gray, renowned artist and a judge of the art competition, welcomed the opportunity to participate in the Titanic art competition.
“Not only does this art competition give children the opportunity to express through art their understanding of Titanic and its connection to Cobh, it stimulates their interest in this unique ship, it’s history and it’s close connection with Cork, in particular, Cobh”, said Philip Gray at the launch of the Titanic Experience art competition.
Children aged between four and twelve years old are invited to sketch, paint or create a piece of art that represents ‘Titanic and her connection to Cobh’, which is the theme of this year’s competition. The public will be invited to view the entries at an exhibition at the Titanic Experience Cobh from 5th April 2013 before the formal judging takes place on Friday 12th April.
“A limited edition series of prints of the winning entries will be produced and displayed during the Project Titanic week, which marks the Titanic anniversary this year”, explained Gillen Joyce, Managing Director of the Titanic Experience. “We have a great range of prizes for the young artists themselves as well as their schools, including art supply vouchers, free class tours to the Titanic Experience and a range of other great prizes for the winning entries”.
Entries for the art competition should be sent to ‘Titanic Art Competition’, Titanic Experience Cobh, White Star Line Building, Cobh, Co. Cork. The deadline for receipt of entries is Monday 1st April 2013. There are three categories of entries which range from 4 to 6 years, 7 to 10 years and 10 to 12 years old.
This art competition forms part of the Project Titanic week in April 2013. Following the worldwide commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic last year, the initiative entitled Project Titanic will embrace the connection between Cobh and the Titanic and run a number of events, ceili nights, themed food tastings and lectures to mark the Titanic Anniversary on 15th April. A full listing of the interesting events taking place in Cobh will be announced soon.
