Fifty people keenly interested in the future development of the tourism industry in Cobh have pledged to collaborate further on the development and implementation of a strategy following a hugely successful and productive workshop in Cobh recently. The workshop was independently and expertly facilitated by Martin Brennan of Proactive Management.
The workshop explored the outcomes of the 2010 – 2012 strategy in areas such as Tidy Towns, the Titanic centenary, the education of young people on the importance and career prospects of tourism, the development of Spike Island and Cobh´s presence on the World Wide Web. An amalgam of the strengths and weaknesses of the approach to the development of Tourism in Cobh was determined.
The challenges and opportunities that now exist in Cobh were then explored. The culmination of the discussions generated many ideas to capitalise on the strengths identified, while guarding against the challenges faced.
Martin has now produced a document that has summarised and crystallised the deliberations of the day´s proceedings. A follow up presentation of the outputs of the first workshop will be held on Friday March 15th at 3.00pm in the Jack Doyle Room in the Commodore Hotel. This will lead to a strategy being devised for an action plan for the period 2013 – 2016. Everyone with a keen interest in the development of the tourism industry in Cobh – Great Island is invited to attend. Please email cobhtourism@gmail.com to indicate your intention to attend.
