Special Olympic Ireland National Collection 2012 Raises €580,000

Published

on

This collection took place throughout the highways and byways, villages, towns and cities all over Ireland on Friday 27th April 2012 with over 4000 volunteers were involved in collecting. There were also numerous fund-raising events held which raised €580,000 in total towards such a wonderful cause. There was a total of €1584.54 collected here in Cobh. This included a financial donation of €160 from Cobh Town Council for local voluntary work. Presently Special Olympic Ireland fund-raising has been suspended. Cobh GAA Club who had initially intended to hold a fund-raising event in their club pavilion will now hold a fund-raiser for the Cobh Family Resource Centre. This centre has the good interests of Special Olympics Ireland in mind and has assisted greatly with our 2012 collection. This fund-raiser will be held on Friday 21st September 2012 in Cobh GAA Pavilion.

Sincere thanks to the kind and generous people of Cobh for their financial support and of course to all those who assisted with this collection in any way. €580,000 was a tremendous response under the present financial situation on such a wet and miserable day.

Sincere thanks to all,
Your local Special Olympic Ireland volunteer, Frank O’Brien (Avonlee).
