Cobh Ramblers continued their challenge for Premier League honours with this away victory against Douglas Hall. Playing on the Astro-turf pitch the away side showed their better technique and class to run out comfortable winners. The away side didn’t have all their own way in the first half as Douglas made it difficult but the second half performance was much better as the team worked harder to take the points. The goals were scored by Cillian Tallon and Ian Murphy.

U16 Cup QF

Cobh Ramblers 3 Corinthian Boys 2

Having already qualified for the National Cup semi-final the Cobh Ramblers U16 side made it a double as they ran out winners in this Local Cup Quarter Final tie at the VEC Grounds. On a beautiful morning for football the home side quickly established their superiority and took the lead after a beautiful move down the right side. The move involved Adam Thompson, Ian Murphy and Dave Cahill and ended when Thompson on the overlap put a brilliant cross into the penalty area which was met by Daniel Santry to head past the Corinthians goalkeeper. Ramblers went further ahead through a route one goal when Dave Cahill got his head to a long kick from goalkeeper Shane Hallahan to knock it over the advancing Corinthians keeper. The ever vigilant Daniel Santry chased down the ball to finish to the net for his second goal of the game.

The second half was a tighter affair as Corinthians strived to make an impression on the game. They were rewarded in somewhat controversial circumstances when after a corner kick from the right the well placed referee adjudged that the ball had crossed the line at the near post as Lloyd Spillane cleared. Corinthians now had the initiative and the home side had to defend resolutely to thwart the away side’s attacks. Shane Hallahan in the Ramblers goal was to the fore as he caught and punched a number of crosses from Corinthian’s attacks. Ramblers weathered the storm and went further ahead when after a move down the left Cillian Tallon who chased and harried all day fir the home side was rewarded when his shot was deflected by a defender past the stranded Corinthian keeper for the third goal.

The tie wasn’t finished however as Corinthians were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes for a shirt pulling infringement and the kick was expertly finished to the net giving Hallahan no chance in the home goal. The game finished without further incident and Ramblers now face a challenging semi-final tie against high flying Ringmahon Rangers. The team management would like to thank Jake McQueen for providing the team with energy drinks and energy bars for half-time refreshments.
