U15 Cup
Strand United A 0 Springfield Ramblers 9
Springfield Ramblers u15s were top class in a nine win away to cup opponents Strand United. Despite the pitch being in very poor condition, the boys played fantastic football and were really competitive. Dave Coffey started a lot of the attacks with his well-placed kicks and two of them were scored by Simon Doyle and Ciaran Ahern.
The defence of Cathal Roche, Calvin Murphy, Calvin Carroll and Niall Abbott were really solid and both full backs put in some fine crosses and made a lot of chances where Cian Darcy scored two fine goals.
Charlie Fleming gave a wonderful performance in the centre of midfield and was well supported by Conor Hughes and Sean Hilliard. In fact Charlie scored the best goal of the game, when from near the touchline he hit a splendid free kick into the top corner. Further goals by Charlie and a brilliant back heel from Barry Chandler put the score at seven nil.
Cathal Roche’s deliveries from corner kicks were putting Strand under fierce pressure and this resulted in Sean Hilliard scoring at the far post. Jack McCarthy came on and showed some fine skills and with his lethal pace scored with an unstoppable shot that went in off the crossbar. Credit must go to Strand United who never gave up and were just unlucky that Ramblers who are in second place in the premier division were in top form.
All other games postponed.
