Tourism in Cobh – together we are better

2019 was a great year for Tourism in Cobh with many accolades won and visitor numbers building on previous years. Cobh’s hotels bucked the trend with occupancy rates increasing in Cobh but falling in other Tourism hotspots in the south of the country.
Being named one of The 25 Most Beautiful Small Towns in Europe by Condé Nast, winning another Cruise Critic Cruisers’ Choice Award and Cobh being named the Best Tourism Experience in the East Cork Business and Tourism Awards show what investment, pride in our places of work and in our town and hard work can deliver in terms of visitor experience satisfaction.
Spike Island also scooped the Best Attraction Award at the International Travel and Tourism Awards in London.
As the only dedicated Tourism promotion body for the town, Cobh Tourism has played a key role in increasing visitor numbers to Cobh. A modest marketing budget derived from member’s subscriptions and grant assistance from Cork County Council was repaid ten times in terms of extensive publicity generated for our town and our members. Our welcome, world class attractions and delightful historic town on the shore of Cork Harbour make Cobh a great place to visit but publicity doesn’t just happen. It was the Press Release issued by Cobh Tourism that grabbed the headlines – not the Condé Nast accolade in itself.
Cobh Tourism would like to thank our Tourism Ambassadors, the Cobh Branch O.N.E., St Colman’s Cathedral Carillonneur, the Commodore Choir, Cobh Confraternity Band, the local clergy, speakers who are happy to act as MC’s and the Animation teams of Cobh. They are always willing participants in events organised by Cobh Tourism and we thank them for being so giving.
We thank all Cobh Media outlets for promoting our events and everything that is happening in Cobh. Mike Bardsley of Cobh Edition helps with technical issues on our website www.visitcobh.com and with the design and printing of our promotional material.
Cobh Tourism operates on a relatively small budget made up of member’s subscriptions, grants, fundraising and the commitment and hard work of our volunteer directors. The old adage that a rising tide lifts all boats is certainly true. However together we are better. If all businesses were members of Cobh Tourism in 2020 the increased marketing spend coupled with the spectacular events planned for our town and Harbour would draw even more visitors and benefit everyone.
