Wellbeing Day event in Cobh – REVIEW

Published

on

The inaugural Cobh Wellbeing Day took place last Saturday, 18th June from 11am-4pm on the Promenade. Despite some threats of rain and a few early showers the event was declared a success by the organisers and by the Mayor of Cobh, Cllr Finbarr O’Driscoll. Opening the event he praised the organisations that were present on the day, saying just how much it highlighted the wealth and breadth of what is on offer in this town. Organisations came from within Cobh and from around county Cork and showcased their services and provided information, balloons, massages, ‘beer goggles’, sunflowers and more. Celebrating family support, mental health services, youth services, alternative therapies and sporting organisations, the variety of exhibitors attracted a lot of attention. The sun eventually shone and members of the public were able to enjoy the free entertainment provided on the bandstand. There was everything from Trad music from the Moroneys, to rap by the YMCA’s Operation Cork Music Blast, as well as Cork Multicultural Choir, CYS Dancers, Viv Leahy and Katie McGroarty.

The aim of the event was to promote all forms of well being (Mental health, Physical Health, Sexual Health and Social Health) for all ages and backgrounds in the Cobh Community and was organised by the Family Support Network, a collection of professional organisations serving the people of Cobh. The organisers were grateful to all who contributed to the day through voluntary provision of entertainment, stewarding, showcasing of information and travelling to the event.
