We’re hearing that there have been quite a few Central Heating Oil thefts in the Cobh area recently so it might be an idea to keep an eye out and check your tank on a regular basis. One recommendation is NOT to fill your tank and only top up as required. Locks have been broken on tanks, and some have had holes drilled into them. Locks on oil tanks are not always an ample deterrent to thieves as the locks can be circumvented by tapping into the outlet pipes, for instanceThese guys use specialised equipment and would take them no more that a few minutes to complately drain a tank.
If you have elderly neighbours who use oil then it might be worth advising them and also keeping an eye out for them. People are suggesting that these guys follow the oil truck from the depot so can see where the oil is being delivered. STAY ALERT FOLKS.
