Cobh Ramblers’ u19’s had a fantastic win over Athlone town. Leaving at 8.00amto travel, the lads knew that they had to win to keep hot on the tail of Limerick FC. Ramblers started very brightly and had a good goal disallowed ten minutes in when Daniel Santry scored with a powerful shot. Brendan Frahill was unlucky when he rose high above the defence only to head the ball against the bar. Ramblers defence was well on top, and Eoin Hastings and Paul Ronan were on superb form.
The half time talk was more of the same and not to panic. Ramblers were kept on making chances but on a very poor pitch the lads found difficulty not finish things off. A succession of corners delivered by Jason Abbott put Athlone under more pressure with Dave Curran, Dylan McNamara, Kevin Mullane all missing good opportunities. Finally top scorer Josh Murphy struck a twenty yard shot into the corner to put Ramblers into the lead, taking all three points with a 1-0 win.
Next Sunday, 11th March, Ramblers will play Limerick City FC at St’Colman’s Park at 2.00pm in a top of the table clash which promises to be a craking game. Limerick remain topt by just a single point. Please come out and support your local team.
