Shake a leg at Wacky Trousers’ Day and win prizes from Emirates
3rd June 2014 – Forget your fascinators and gorgeous gúnas, this year’s Irish Open is all about the wackiest dressed in homage to golf legend and sometime fashionista, John Daly.
The organisers of The Irish Open are calling on ladies and gents alike to unleash their inner John Daly and arrive to Fota Island Resort in their craziest shorts or trousers on Friday, 20th June, to be considered for the wacky fashion crown and some fantastic prizes. Top prize is a €500 voucher for award-winning airline and official airline to The Irish Open, Emirates with lots of European Tour runners-up prizes on offer to encourage visitors to get into the spirit of Wacky Trousers’ day and bring even more colour to the county of Cork.
The winners will be selected by Esther McCarthy, Features Editor at the Irish Examiner; Country Manager for Emirates, Margaret Shannon and Antonia Beggs, Championship Director of the Irish Open. With John Daly famed as much for his eccentric trousers as his golfing prowess, each judge will have the two-time Major winner in mind when they crown the overall golfing fashionista.
Antonia Beggs said, “John Daly is probably the most interesting fashion icon on the course and we’re inviting all visitors to the Irish Open to pay homage to John and shake up the fashion status quo on day two of the event, Friday 20th June. Our fashion spotters will be keeping an eye out for possible winners and there may even be a wacky trousers parade to showcase the best entries.”
Taking place from 19th – 22nd June, The Irish Open returns to Fota Island Resort after a 12 year absence, playing host to a field featuring some of the world’s leading golfers including Major winners Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke.
Irish Open tickets are on sale priced at €30 for an Adult Day Ticket (€35 on the gate) and €70 for Adult Season Tickets (€80 on the gate). Children under 16 go free. Corporate Hospitality packages are currently available.
