Cobh GAA Notes 27-08-12

Cobh’s Junior B Hurlers put in a good shift but unfortunately come up short against a good St. Catherines side.

The Cobh men started the game well and looked strong in defense keeping the St. Catherines side at bay as the men from Tallow tried to take the upper hand in this Junior Championship tie. Reamonn Wilson and Conor Mc Loughlin hurled a great amount of ball in the opening stages and made life very difficult for the opposition. Cobh’s forwards, although winning nice ball in the opposition’s half, found it difficult to convert their chances. Midway through the second half Cobh took the lead with the experienced Seamus Ryan putting a placed ball over the bar from his own half. Cobh led at the break 0-5 to 0-3. At the beginning of the second half both teams felt they were in with a chance of snatching this tie. Chance conversion however proved to be one of the significant factors in deciding the outcome of this clash. St Catherines knocked over a string of points and Cobh found it difficult to score from play.

St Catherines limited the Cobh side to scores from frees and eventually they saw out the tie with a comfortable seven point win. Cobh now face the back door route while St Catherines advance to the third round. The extra round will give this Cobh side a chance to gel as they will be able to get a few league games under their belt. Next for Cobh is a League clash with Bride Rovers this Wednesday night at 7pm in the bottom GAA field. Players to play well for Cobh: Brian O’Connell, Reamonn Wilson, Conor Mc Loughlin & Don Ryan
