Cobh Titanic 100 launched their midway through the Titanic Commemoration year events with the help of Cobh Animation Team. A major 5 days of  Vintage and Heritage will happen in Cobh on the weekend of 28th, 29th July through to Aug 1st. Details of the Vintage Speak Easy, the Vintage Fair and Tea Party and of course the Food and Heritage Day on www.Titanic100.ie. The team travelled the journey from Cobh to Belfast by
Irish Rail in full period costume with 2 photographers and a suitcase! The case carried the hand outs that were delivered personally to every passenger on all the trains as well as a Flash Mob in Kent Station , Cork, Heuston Station , Dublin and Central Station, Belfast as well the Titanic Experience in Belfast City.

It was novel and charming and went viral on Twitter by lunchtime that day, even before the group got to Belfast, home of Harland and Wolfe Dockyards where the Titanic was made. Now, after an injection of millions, the site hosts the new and shiny Titanic Experience, an interactive centre that is second to none. But what it didnt have was an Animation Team!

Once the group of ladies arrived the whole centre stopped and there was 3 hours of photos with tourists from all over the world. We are now working in conjunction with the team at the centre to help them build an Animation Team of their own. Till then the ladies have been invited back to promote a few events happening before the end of the summer. The perfect link between the two places on the island of Ireland connected with the what was then the biggest ship in the world.

The group which started during Titanic week in Cobh in April have continued to meet and greet every liner and also attend festivals and events all over the country to promote the harbour town and its connection
to the ill fated ship. They go to hospitals and care homes, shopping centres and theatres all by invite by those who wish to have their bit of Titanic experience brought to them. They are a volunteer group of ladies who love that age of elegance as much as they love to promote their home town. There has not been a week since the commemoration in April that the team did not  have an invite to a festival of an event. They have captured the imagination of people all over the country, done radio and TV programmes and even have had invites abroad to acknowledge Cobh’s connection with the Titanic as its last port of call.

Who knows where they will turn up next! But you will catch them at the Vintage Speak Easy in the Commodore Hotel on July 28th. A fun musical evening remembering the music of bygone days. 20’s and 50’s with our own Swing band combined with bubbly and nibbles all in vintage dress (optional) are the ingredients for a great night out. Why not stay overnight and be ready for the Vintage Fair the following day Sun 29th . The promenade will be full of great food companies and will host the Titanic Tea party, while the road in Westbourne Place will be dressed with vintage stalls and great vintage cars. The Commodore Hotel will revisit the yesteryear with gifts, fashion, beauty as well as an exhibit of Cobh Camera Club photos so far this commemoration year. The ladies will be about all week in the tea rooms and hotels of the town. On the Weds the 1st of Aug. Cobh will become Ireland’s answer to Disneyland but with that Irish twist! Actors are the next stage of the Animation Team. Scripts have been written to show just some of the towns heritage and strange connections to famous Irish people. Queen Vic will walk the promenade, James Connelly will be ‘stoned’ in the square, Fr. Mathew will revisit his home at Wilson’s Pharmacy, Jack Doyle will rise again on the Commodore Steps and Margaret Rice and her 5 children victims of the sinking of the Titanic will be at Cobh Heritage Centre. Just like Disney you will be able to follow the trail and hear each of their stories while also enjoying the best of Irish Food at some of our, Hotels, Cafe’s and Restaurants. History will come alive! An excellent 5 days of events with something for all the family and all FREE.
