€1,081 raised in aid of the Special Olympics Ireland

The annual fundraiser in aid of the Special Olympics Ireland was held in Cobh on the 25th. April. The amount raised here in Cobh through your generosity and support was €1,081 which is very much appreciated. Thanks to the following for facilitating the collection: Keating’s Londis, Murphy’s Centra, Ger Curley and Cobh Heritage Centre.

Our thanks also to Anthony Weir, sacristan St. Colman’s Cathedral for facilitating the counting of the money raised. Sincere thanks to the following: Carrignafoy Community College TY students, YMCA in Cobh, the Family Resource Centre, Cobh Community Centre, David Verling in Walterstown and of course Ger Maher, and all those who assisted in any way. The overall takings from the National collection will be brought to your notice when available.

Athletes from Cobh in individual schools, clubs and Cope Foundation are in training for the National Special Olympic games in the University of Limerick, from 12/16th June 2014, we wish them every success.

A special word of thanks must go to Frank O’Brien who has assisted with the Special Olympics since the 2003 Dublin World Games. Frank will be assigned with the role of GMS assistant with Aquatics in the 50 metre pool in UL.
