seansherlock211Sean Sherlock has confirmed that the outstanding legal issues holding up the sale of the Marino Point site are about to be resolved.

Following my ongoing dialogue with my colleagues in government, I am confident that the outstanding issues relating to the foreshore lease assignment will be progressed to allow the sale of this site go through. This is great news for Cobh and the Great Island, the sale of this land, to a consortium involving the port of Cork, will ensure that this site is finally cleaned up and generate employment in both the short and longer term. This site has huge potential and the water frontage combined with the adjacent rail line are valuable assets which should maximise the potential of this site going forward.

This is another piece in the jigsaw in the continuous improvements happening on the Great Island. The recent improvements to the berthing facilities at the Cobh Cruise Terminal, the ongoing development of Spike Island, the purchase of the ballast Quay together with existing local attractions such as the Queenstown Story, The Titanic Experience, Titanic trail and Fota Wildlife park, amongst many others, all point to a positive future for the Town. Of course huge praise must go to the local Tidy towns organisation for their continuous work in maintaining of the towns Silver Medal status at the recent National Tidy Towns awards. All these different, but complimentary, elements culminating in Cobh being recognised as one of the top tourist destinations in Ireland. One of the key elements to safe guarding this bright future is ensuring that the “Spike Island Experience” is maintained and I’m of the strong opinion that key to this “experience” is the boat trip from Cobh. There exists a strong lobby group who are intend on building a bridge link from Haulbowline – I would question the need of such a bridge.

The Spike experience is predicated on access form Cobh. I want to see that experience protected and enhanced.
