The Titanic 100 Closing Ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Cobh Promenade between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday 15th of December. During which time, we, with special guests and entertainment will reflect on 2012 in Cobh and focus on all the positive opportunities we as a community can look forward to in 2013 and beyond. The ceremony will also host guest appearances from some local artists.
The Christmas Markets are scheduled to be held in the Cobh Promenade from Saturday December 15th to Sunday December 23rd 2012. After the Titanic Commemoration Closing Ceremony the Cobh Christmas Markets will be officially opened.
Subject to funding and license, we would like to install a number of wooden German-style Christmas huts in the promenade during the Christmas markets and would like to offer businesses in Cobh the opportunity to hire market stalls. Titanic 100 staff will organize this event this year, but it is our intention to pass it on to Cobh as a community to run with year on year after 2012, having the idea grow every year into something bigger and better. This year’s market will see daily visits from Santa, Children’s activities and stalls.
(Please note if the wooden German-style huts cannot be funded, if there are not enough huts for the demand, stallholders will be advised with adequate time, to bring their own structures)
The 2012 Cobh Christmas Market is a great opportunity to start annual Christmas Markets in Cobh’s Promenade. This will extend our tourist season, bringing visitors to Cobh, and also bring the local community together by celebrating Christmas in the heart of the town.
The Titanic commemorations in April this year saw 94,000 visitors, generated over €2 million for the local economy and the PR value around the world because of Cobh’s Titanic Centenary this year has reached over €16 million.
Events continuing in Cobh will help to generate the kind of positive and economic benefits that this year has seen locally, and we really appreciate your involvement in this years Christmas event if you so desire. The Cobh Christmas Markets will be successful if the community gets behind it, so please feel free to drop into our office at 3 Westbourne Place if you would like to be involved.
Apply for a stall, donate/sponsor, volunteer or give ideas to make it bigger and better, we would be very happy to hear from you.
General applications for all stallholders close on Friday November 9th at 5 pm.
Please contact us at the Titanic 100 office, 3 Westbourne Place, 4855 623 for all details.
On behalf of the staff of the Titanic 100 office, we thank you for your support throughout 2012 and we wish you and the community of Cobh all the best for the future, it has been a pleasure working for you.
Yours Sincerely,
Marc Anderson
