Cobh Footpaths Washed!

Published

on

In April and early May, Cobh Tidy Towns embarked on an ambitious Footpath cleaning and chewing gum removal programme on the brick paving in Cobh Town Centre. John Walsh of Cobh Powerwashing Services cleaned thoroughly the areas most stained by chewing gum in the vicinity of the two squares. Cobh Tidy Towns hired two machines and cleaned from the Annie Moore statue to the Wan Fu Restaurant over a two week period.

Businesses in the areas cleaned were asked if they would contribute to the cost which amounted to €4000. Just less than 50% of this sum has been collected. The businesses which contributed are: Bank of Ireland, Trade Winds Restaurant, Tarrant’s Bar, Ryan’s Bar, Mauritania Bar, English’s Newsagents and Card Shop, Frank Kelleher Solicitors, Rob Roy Bar, Gilbert’s Restaurant, Boyle Sports, Anatolia Barbers, BMC, A.I.B., Titanic Experience, Marine Transport Services Ltd., Cove Cabs, Permanent TSB and O’Brien’s Furniture. Each of these businesses is receiving a door sticker that identifies their contribution to the Tidy Towns efforts. Further contributions are still welcome.

Cobh Tidy Towns would appeal for all litter to be disposed of in the litter bins, especially chewing gum which is unsightly and very expensive to remove.
