The Springfield Ramblers Schoolboys Football Club is proud to announce the official opening of our new Astroturf facility at Carrignafoy Community College Grounds. The ceremony will take place on Saturday 21st May 2011 at 2.45pm. The opening ceremony will be performed by former Irish Senior Soccer International Ray Houghton & CEO of the FAI John Delaney. The facility has been up and running since September of last year and has been a great success. It has been a great asset to the Springfield Ramblers Club as we now have our own all-weather training facilities and we are not reliant on other organizations for pitch rental arrangements. The facility is being funded by subscriptions from the club members and from income from hire arrangements with private groups. While the income from the pitch is primarily being used to pay off the substantial loan taken out for the construction of the facility we have removed the burden of paying out ‘dead money’ for training facility hire.
As the pitch is located at the Community College Grounds we are re-dedicating the grounds to the memory of our former club member and officer John Murphy. This act will commemorate the role John played both in our club and also his professional role as a long serving teacher on the VEC staff of the Community College in its present format and formerly as Cobh Vocational School. To this end and in agreement with the management of the Community College the whole facility of existing playing pitches and the new Astroturf pitch will be renamed as John Murphy Memorial Park. We in the club believe that this will be a fitting tribute to John’s contribution to the academic and sporting life of the town.
The club invites the members of the public to come along and celebrate this occasion with the club and the Community College.
