CANCELLED: Tallinn University Choir in Cobh on May 1st

Carrignafoy Community College will host the Tallinn University Choir in the Cobh Community Centre on Friday 1st. May at 11.15am. The concert is free to all who are interested both young and not so young will be enthralled by this top class performance. The concert is part of the International Choral Festival and any contributions made will be in support of the Alzheimer’s Society. Light refreshments are available.The Chamber Choir of Tallinn University was formed in 1997 under the guidance of Merike Aarma. Initially the choir of the Department of Culture, it became one of the University’s representative groups in 2002.
The choir singers are students and University alumni from over ten different academic departments. The choir repertoire varies from Renaissance music to contemporary masterpieces. The work of Veljo Tormis is a significant part of the choir’s repertoire and they have performed his pieces while successfully representing Estonia in various competitions and festivals: the VIII International Choir Competition “Europe and its Songs” in Barcelona, 2006, Malta in 2007, in the “World Choir Championships 2009” in Korea, the XI Estonian Chamber Choir Festival in 2010 (Grand Prix and special awards) and in Rimini in 2011.
A special place in the choir’s repertoire is dedicated to pop-jazz music. In recent years the choir has participated and won awards at the Viimsi JazzPop Festival.
